Identification of phenol, ferric chloride
Identification of phenol are ferric chloride ferric chloride: test-diaminopyridine-diaminopyridine:
This test in order to identify phenol to work. phenol are usually solved in not solving the acid and are therefore in the Group A2.
Add some alpha-naphthol to 2 ml of pure chloroform-in a dry environment. After assuring alpha-naphthol dissolution, we add about 5-6 drops of ferric chloride reagent. Then add about 3 drops of pyridine, which is very toxic, to the solution.
The test is positive when mixed in blue, violet, purple, green, brownish, and pale yellow orange flowers are considered negative for this test.
In this experiment, pyridine is used as an open source because it is homogeneous with single phase material.
Note: Pyridine is toxic and harmful
Error factors:
The test tube should be completely dry

Identification of Phenols – Ferric Chloride Test
Introduction
Compounds with a phenol group will form a blue, violet, purple, green, or red-brown color upon addition of aqueous ferric chloride. This reaction can be used as a test for phenol groups.
Equations
3ArOH + FeCl3 → Fe(OAr)3 + 3HCl
To Conduct Demonstration:
- Mix several drops or a few crystals of compound to be tested in a beaker or in a 200mm test tube.
- Add a few drops of 1% FeCl3.
- As a control, add a few drops of 1% FeCl3 to water in a second beaker. Also, mix aspirin in water to use as a control
- Observe color change, if any.
Safety
Gloves are recommended
